The International Confederation
of Midwifery Centers
Who We Are
We are a global community of midwifery center associations and individual midwifery centers committed to the midwifery center as the fullest expression of midwifery model of care.
What We Aim For
We aim to promote, support and advocate for evidence based, high quality midwifery centers for every woman.
For a midwifery center to provide high quality evidence-based care it needs:
to meet standards that are evidence based,
support the midwifery model of care in all care activities.
systems for ongoing quality improvement and
participation in the health care system with referral pathways.
To fully participate in a health care system, midwifery centers need:
to be recognized and licensed whenever possible,
to collect data on outcomes, and
ability to participate in any payment systems available to health care facilities.
To meet these aims we support:
the opening and strengthening of high quality midwifery centers, and
the development of national midwifery center associations to unify the voice of individual midwifery centers to participate in policy and regulation of midwifery centers.
We see ICMC as the global organization to support these aims, providing advocacy and education for midwifery centers and other stakeholders both nationally and internationally.
